Trac Dynamics Swingarm - Do-It-Yourself Swingarm Installation
author // Matt Lapaglia

Trac Dynamics SwingarmInstalling a new swingarm involves a lot of the components on your motorcycle, including the rear wheel and shock. But with a little patience, and a few useful tools, you can easily swap out your stocker for a swingarm that’s chromed, stretched, or whatever your inner customizer wants for a trick look.
STEP 1
Trac Dynamics Swingarm
The use of frame stands are needed to suspend the rear of the bike for removal of the stock swingarm; however, there are more primitive ways to achieve this such as using tie downs hanging from the rafters in your garage.
STEP 2
Trac Dynamics Swingarm
Remove the rear wheel. This is done by loosening the axle nut and sliding the rear wheel axle out of the swingarm.
STEP 3
Trac Dynamics Swingarm
Now remove the rear brake caliper assembly.
STEP 4

Next you will need to cut the chain and remove it. Start by grinding the pins off the chain.
STEP 5
Trac Dynamics Swingarm
Once the pins are off, use either a chain breaker or knock the link plate off with a flat head screwdriver.
STEP 6
Trac Dynamics Swingarm
Once the wheel, chain and brake caliper are removed, the shock and suspension linkage dog bones need to come off. Two bolts hold the shock in place — one in the top clevis…

…and one in the linkage.
STEP 8
Trac Dynamics Swingarm
Remove the two bolts connecting the linkage to the swingarm.
STEP 9
Trac Dynamics Swingarm
With an impact gun, remove the swingarm axle nut.
STEP 10
Trac Dynamics Swingarm
This will loosen the spanner nut on the right side, allowing you to loosen the swingarm pivot axle. You can also use a spanner wrench to loosen the spanner nut. If you don’t have one simply take a flathead screwdriver and tap it loose.
STEP 11
Trac Dynamics Swingarm
Take the pivot axle out and the swingarm will come right out.
STEP 12
Trac Dynamics Swingarm
The linkage pin, inner sleeves and the stock crush sleeve need to be taken out of the stock swingarm and used in the Trac swingarm. If you don’t have a bearing puller you can use a long dowel or a long round piece of metal to knock one of the bearings out to get the crush sleeve out; just make sure to heat up the pivot tube a little to ease the removal of the bearing. STEP 13

Install the crush sleeve, bearings and inner sleeves into the Trac swingarm along with the linkage pin.
STEP 14
Trac Dynamics Swingarm
Position the swingarm in the frame and slide the pivot axle through the frame. Tighten the pivot axle until it stops — this will move the arm all the way over to the left side, aligning it with the front wheel.
STEP 15
Trac Dynamics Swingarm
Now replace the spanner nut on the right and the axle nut on the left. Tighten to factory specs. Install the shock and the linkage dog bones and tighten to factory specs, as well.
STEP 16
Trac Dynamics Swingarm
Now that the Trac Dynamics swingarm is in place, the rear brake hanger assembly and rear wheel get re-installed.
STEP 17
Trac Dynamics Swingarm
Attach the chain and you’re ready to go riding. A longer chain and brake line may be required depending on the length of swingarm.  If so, attach the new chain to the old chain with a master clip and pull the new chain through.
