What tanks and fenders should I put on my Mini Chopper? Well ultimately
it is your decision but I will give you a few recommendations to try and
help you make up your mind. Lets address the gas tank first, what type
of chopper style are looking to achieve? Stretched chopper, old school
chopper or drag style chopper once you have decided the style you can move
to finding the perfect gas tank for you chopper.
Old school chopper when I think of an old school chopper I imagine something
like the bikes Indian Larry builds with spoke rims and the classic peanut gas tank. The peanut style
gas tank will help you achieve that classic old school look and feel you
want.
The stretched chopper like the bikes Orange County Choppers builds. For this style of chopper a nice 20", 23" or 26" gas tank with a long and slim look is ideal for getting the height you
want in your chopper.
Drag style chopper my personal favorite I like the bikes built by Paul Yaffe. This look can be achieved by a nice Teardrop gas tank. or even a nice mustang style tank.
Well regardless of what style you are looking to achieve you are going
to have to purchase a gas tank so remember this when purchasing your gas
tank how heavy is it and is it functional? Will you be able to fill it
with gas to replace the tank on your engine or is it a dummy tank which
will just be extra weight? You can find some peanut gas tanks on Ebay or you can purchase some nice working fiberglass gas tanks from this website. So to review we need our gas tank to functional, lightweight and fit the overall look we want to achieve.
Which fenders to buy? Sorry to say there are not a lot of options out there.
You can make one from scratch out of 16 gauge sheet metal but lets face
it most hobbyist don't have the tools needed to form a fender. How about
the trailer tire fender this is a good start you will need to spend some
time with it to get it to fit just the way you want so be patient draw
it out on the fender and measure twice before cutting. The third way to
go is the Fiberglass fender custom made to fit your 205/50/10 rear tire and or 20" front tire.
These fenders can easily be cut to change the look of the fender so you
do not end up with your average Mini Chopper.
